Species Survival
This blog has been in existence in one form or another since May 25, 2008.
Yet even today it is a thought-provoking and entertaining read.
Blog Synopsis: The Fermi Paradox is the apparent contradiction between the high probability of the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations and the lack of evidence for or contact with such civilizations. The question of why we haven't yet detected any signs of inteligent alien life is still unresolved, and there are several possible explanations. One of the explanations is the possibility that the timescales involved in the evolution of intelligent life and the development of the technology necessary for interstellar communication are too long, and civilizations may not last long enough to make contact. However, it's also possible that advanced civilizations have found ways to overcome the limitations of physical resources, and have developed technologies to preserve and sustain their populations for extended periods of time. For example, they may have a large part of their population living in digital form, stored and purely computational, or existing in virtual constructs. They may also have the capability to experience consciousness at variable rates and only choose to be corporeal when necessary. The idea of transmitting representatives to us digitally, following instructions for the construction of a suitable virtual construct or physical DNA-like womb incubator environment, is also a possibility. Such a contact or implementation of this technology by humanity itself would transform the human species into a long-term survival civilization, which would most likely result in the ultimate exploration and settlement of the galaxy itself. It would in essence guarantee our long-term (millions, possible billions of years) survival, if not practical infinity. Who knows what we might actual become? But one thing is certain, we won't be extinct! We will have become posthuman, and all that it implies.
